If you drive a BMW or MINI EV, live data in A Better Route Planner stopped working in November 2025. The usual advice since then has been to buy an OBD dongle and leave it plugged into the car.

Nexiter LIVE is the other option. It sends your car's live battery level, range and charging state straight to ABRP, using BMW's own CarData service over the car's built-in SIM. No dongle.

It is in open testing (early access) on Google Play, and anyone can install it straight from the store.

Get it on Google Play

What you need for it to do anything

  • A fully electric BMW or MINI with built-in connectivity that supports CarData streaming.
  • You are the main (primary) user of the vehicle in your BMW account. Joint and secondary users cannot create a CarData client, and there is no way around it. This is the single most common reason people cannot take part.
  • An ABRP account with a vehicle profile and a Live-Data token — a free account works. (ABRP Premium adds Android Auto, traffic, weather and speed cameras, but is not required.)
  • An Android 12+ phone.
  • Available in 31 countries: the EU-27 plus Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and the UK.
  • Willingness to disable battery optimisation for the app, and to send a log when something goes wrong.

Worth knowing before you start

  • Setting up the BMW CarData client on BMW's portal takes 10–20 minutes and is fiddly. The manual walks through every step.
  • BMW allows one streaming connection per account, so one phone per car.
  • This is an unofficial integration. Nexiter LIVE is not affiliated with, endorsed by or supported by BMW Group or Iternio, and either could change their service in a way that breaks it.

What it costs

A 14-day free trial with everything included, then a one-time purchase in Google Play (price shown in your local currency, incl. VAT). No subscription to us. A free ABRP account works; Premium is optional and paid to Iternio.

A thank-you for useful feedback. Send us a bug report, a log, or how setup went. A particularly useful report can earn a free lifetime code (a Google Play promo code). Closed-test testers who stayed through to launch already qualify.
